Panasonic ER-GB40-S

The Panasonic ER-GB40-S cordless moustache and beard trimmer comes with an AC recharger stand, a cleaning brush, and three comb attachments. The adjustable length dial has 19 settings with a full range of 1-10mm at .5mm intervals. The stainless steel blades are hypo-allergenic to protect your skin. The Panasonic ER-GB40-S has water shutters that enable it to be washed with water, rather than simply brushed dry, for a more efficient cleaning. The water shutters make it waterproof as well. The inclusion of a rubberized grip makes it easier to hold onto while using.

The ER-GB40-S is a good overall product. It functions as advertised, but has a few kinks as can be expected. Below is an overview of the pros and cons of this trimmer. First, the good news.

Pros

You can use it in the shower. The water shutters allow it to get wet without getting damaged or ruined. Beard trimming can get pretty messy, but clean up is almost non-existent if you use this trimmer in the shower.

Did I mention that it’s waterproof? It should be emphasized how convenient that is. That alone sets this trimmer apart from dozens of others in its price range.

The price of this trimmer is relatively low considering the product’s quality. For a trimmer under $50, it delivers value.

The ER-GB40-S has many length options to choose from. That’s great, especially if your facial hair grows unevenly and you’d like you trim certain areas at different lengths than others.

It feels solid in the hand. The ER-GB40-S seems built to last.

The Panasonic ER-GB40-S holds charge well, so it’s ideal for traveling. Just make sure to bring a power converter if you plan to charge it abroad, otherwise you run the risk of ruining the charger by using the wrong voltage to charge.

And now for the bad news.

Cons

There is no indication of the battery level, so you can never really be sure how much juice is left. There is however an indicator light to show that it is charging up, but knowing exactly how much battery power there is would be nice.

You have to (or at least you’re supposed to) use oil to clean the blades after each use. As this is time consuming, it’s rather inconvenient. Many other trimmers at the same price range don’t require the blades to be oiled after EVERY use. The ER-GB40-S can start to pull your hair if you don’t oil it.

The length range is only 1-10mm. This isn’t as much a con as it is a limitation of the ER-GB40-S. It is plainly advertised to operate within this range, but for some, it would be nice to get closer than 1mm or even leave the beard a bit longer than 10mm. If your desired facial hair length falls between 1-10mm though, this just fine, especially since there are so many settings in between.

Everyone’s facial hair grows differently, so as with any shaver, the Panasonic ER-GB40-S could produce mixed results. But overall, the ER-GB40-S is a fine product, and makes a nice gift.
