The Philips Norelco 9000 series and the Braun series 9 are two of the best kinds of shavers you can get. They both cut very close and are each the flagship models for their respective manufacturer. But which one is better? One of these shavers must offer more bang for the buck or be just flat out superior. May the best shaver win.

Let’s be honest, if you’ve read any of the reviews for either of these shavers, then you should know that you’ll probably be happy with either one of them, but the question at hand is exactly which one to choose—and that depends on YOU. These are premium shavers and their price tags reflect their quality. They may not be cheap, but they’re loaded with features and extras that really add up and pay off in the long run.

If price is a concern, then it’s important to note that the two Norelco 9000 series shavers are at least $200 cheaper than the Braun Series 9-9095cc, Braun’s most top-level option. Braun does make five different models in their series 9 though, and some of them are significantly more affordable. Several of their models match Norelco’s price. Here’s a rundown of each of these two high-class electric shaver series and how they compare.

Braun Series 9

Braun Series 9
The Braun Series 9 includes three non-wet shave models that come at a discounted price for their lack of water resistance, the 9030s, 9050cc and 9090cc. The 9050s and 9095cc on the other hand are waterproof and can even be used in the shower. The 9040s and 9030s lack the automatic simultaneous cleansing and charging dock, active drying and automatic program selection. The 9090cc and 9095cc include those three features, while the 9050cc includes all but automatic program selection.

Aside from those key differences, the Braun Series 9 electric shavers are all very similar. They have a quadruple action cutting system supported by flexible cutting elements. The flexible parts that make up the head bend in from each corner when you push down, while the entire head itself provides an up-down motion to allow the shaver a complete range. Braun’s proprietary OptiFoil blades give a very close shave that few competitors can match, while the middle trimmer row cuts flat-facing hairs.

Philips Norelco Series 9000

Philips Norelco Series 9000

The Norelco Series 9000 is comprised of two models, the 9300 and the slightly better 9700. They both utilize Philips’ AquaTec wet & dry shave technology. Their V-Track precision blade system uses rotating V-shaped blades that get extra close. Their contour detect technology combined with their super lift and cut action empower them to shave super close. The Norelco 9000 series shavers have three different shave speeds to choose from, which is excellent for those with sensitive skin who want to slow down the cutting speed a bit.

The 9300 has the SmartClean system, while the 9700 has the more advanced SmartClean Pro system, which includes an advanced progress display. The 9300 comes in glacier blue, while the 9700 comes in black. The 9700 includes a digital interface; the 9300 does not. Other than those few differences, they are virtually identical.

Philips Norelco Shaver 9700 Review

Which shaver is actually better?

They’re very similar in a lot of ways as far as what they have to offer and what features they boast. What it really comes down to is how well their respective blade system works and feels on your face. They’re both pretty fast. The Philips Norelco’s V-Track blade system, superior flexibility and ability to form to the contours of your face give Philips a very compelling, possibly superior product. Braun has a highly competitive shaver in each of its Series 9 models as well. The series 9 and 9000 series are both durable and can be used for weeks or even months with the same shaver heads without replacement.

All that being said, shaving is a very personal experience as far as preference goes. For example, some guys prefer using a straight razor over the nicest, most feature-packed shaver in the world. The best way to find out for yourself which one is better is to actually try them out. The Philips Norelco includes a 45-day money back guarantee if you choose not to keep it. The Braun Series 9 shavers offer a 60-day money back guarantee, so if you buy both and decide to return whichever one you like less, you have at least 45-days to decide. You may return the lesser shaver if it is undamaged of course.

Picking the winner between these two fantastic electric shaver series is very difficult as they both have excellent products to choose from. You really can’t go wrong with either of these flagship shaving devices, but hopefully you have enough information here to make an informed decision now. If so, happy shaving!
